The following is a transcript of an interview with Aaron.
What is your name?
My name is Aaron Horwath and, yes, that is a real last name.
Where are you from?
I am from Portland, Oregon. No, I do not ride a unicycle…or own an accordion…or a pet donkey.
What do you know about working abroad?
Well, I have lived abroad for three years, first in Hong Kong and then the last two years in Vietnam.
As for the work part, I have worked as a freelance travel writer in Hong Kong and wrote for a couple of travel startups, then worked for a hospitality school startup in Hanoi, Vietnam, and now work for an international technology company where I work with our content team writing for our internal and external communication (our blog) channel, as well as take care of a laundry list of other responsibilities. I currently live in the coastal city of Da Nang, Vietnam.
Three years abroad? Why do you hate your family?
I love my family! I really wanted to live an interesting, exciting life after college. I didn’t want to enter the doldrums of a normal life. For me, that meant going outside my comfort zone and there is no better way to do that than live in a foreign country.
Hmm. Okay, checks out. What else should we know about you?
Well, I would like to think that simultaneously living in foreign countries, traveling extensively, navigating new cultures, finding employment in international companies, writing for online publications, all before the age of 25 says something about my work ethic, ambition, and professionalism.
Oh! I also ran my own eCommerce store called MASI Shop with my mom in 2015 and our line was carried in a boutique in Portland in addition to selling online. So that too.
Meh. Yeah, I guess so. Anything else?
Umm, I really enjoy travel, riding motorcycles, strolling…
Okay that’s enough thanks.
Oh, okay. Thank you too, I guess.
